Congratulations to GMU junior Andrea Favinger, who qualified for the cross country state meet during Thursday’s sectional championships at Chenango Valley State Park!
Representing our merged Unadilla Valley/Gilbertsville-Mount Upton program, Andrea completed the 5-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 12.70 seconds to place fourth in the Section 4 Class D girls race.
Freshman Aurelia Comer won in 20:18.90 for team champion Delhi-South Kortright, which will send all of its girls to states by virtue of its team title. The top five Class D girls who are not part of the Delhi-SK team also qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships, scheduled for November 16 at Queensbury High.
Andrea’s brother Jake, a freshman at UV, placed 10th in 19:00.30 during the Class D boys sectional race. UV/GMU also received a 20th from freshman Kathleen Pizzuto (24:27.20) in the girls race and a 66th from junior Dominic Berthel (23:32.40) in the boys event.
Both Favingers earned First Team All-Star honors earlier this month from the Midstate Athletic Conference, which recognized Pizzuto as a Second Team All-Star.
* UPDATE: Andrea finished 57th out of 112 Class D girls November 16 at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships! She completed the 5-kilometer course at Queensbury High in 21:51.5.
