The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton School District honored its Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year during an assembly on May 1.
The district also honored its lone retiree for this year, as well as those celebrating 10, 15, and 25 years with the district.
The Support Staff Member of the Year is long-time bus driver Ed Wilson, who has dedicated many hours to the district and the community. Wilson was introduced by CSEA President Deb Ostrander.
The Teacher of the year is Raquel Norton, who is the districts library media specialist. Norton also serves many roles within the district, including the Arts in Education coordinator, the backpack program organizer, mock trial adviser, booster club president, and coach. Norton was introduced by Alicia Cummings.
G-MU Board of Education President Jeremy Pain awarded the honorees with a plaque.
Superintendent Annette Hammond recognized those who have been with the district for 10, 15, and 25 years, as well as honored retiree Terry Hoke, who has been a dedicated bus driver and recess monitor.
Those honored for longevity were:
- 10 years: Kristy Carey, Amy Costello, and Leah Trass.
- 15 years: Becky Acla, Tom Connell, Maria Sakoulas, and Vern Williams.
- 25 years: Deb Ostrander.
