Senior of the Month: Ethan Newman

Ethan is a humble leader known for his loyalty and integrity. Friends describe him as righteous and kind. Giving back to society and doing the right things motivate Ethan, an active church member who is always volunteering to help others.

A few years ago, for example, Ethan participated in a mission trip to Honduras to help needy people. He delivered food to mountain villages, renovated houses and spent time with children at an orphanage.

A well-rounded student, Ethan is involved in several extra-curricular activities at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton. He is a member of the National Honor Society and our High School Student Council, as well as a witty, sharp Mock Trial lawyer who displays confidence under pressure.

Ethan also is a two-sport athlete who has played basketball and soccer since middle school, competing at the junior varsity and varsity levels in both. He’s a talented musician, too, holding the first-chair position on tuba in the symphonic band.

His busy academic schedule includes college-level courses offered by Tompkins Cortland Community College such as Accounting, Biology, Economics, Government, Pre-Calculus and Intro to College Success. Somehow, Ethan has found the time to work at the local ice cream shop and, last summer, right here at GMU.

We wish the best of luck to Ethan, who plans to continue his academic journey at a college in New York state.
