The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District honored more than 40 local veterans Friday morning with its annual Breakfast for the Brave.
Student speakers Kyli Odell and Tavian Raymond coordinated the event with teacher Cierra Stafford and many others as GMU thanked former and current military personnel for their service to our country. All grades attended a presentation in the auditorium that featured a big-screen video and musical performances to show our appreciation.
GMU then treated veterans to a hearty breakfast in the adjacent cafeteria. Susan Sebeck and her staff used upstate New York eggs and syrup in the main course, a breakfast casserole topped with blueberries. Sausage links, fresh fruit, juice and coffee were also on the menu.
As an added bonus, Darin Trass’ second-graders made Lincoln Necklaces in honor of our local veterans, who are listed below with their respective GMU student/staff sponsors.

Students were dismissed at noon Friday and will be off Monday as school is closed to observe the Veterans Day holiday.
The school will be open tonight and Saturday, though, as the GMU Drama Club invites the public to the Auditorium for its presentation of “The Addams Family.” The first show starts at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday and a 7 p.m. encore Saturday night. Admission is $5 or a free-will donation.
