Update: Personal Devices Policy
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best educational environment for our students, we are implementing a new policy regarding the use of mobile phones during school hours based on the feedback received from our survey.

Implementation
Starting with this school year on Thursday, September 5, 2024, students will be required to keep their personal communication devices stored away out of sight and sound during instructional periods. We understand that this may be an adjustment for some, but we believe the long-term benefits will be substantial. Please see our Personal Communications Device Procedure that has been adopted into our Code of Conduct in the Student Handbook.

Why This Change?
Research has shown that the presence of personal communicationStudents with cell phones (Shutterstock) devices in classrooms can significantly hinder students' ability to focus and absorb information. Studies indicate that even the mere presence of a personal communications device can reduce cognitive capacity and attention span. By eliminating this distraction, we aim to create a more conducive learning environment where students can fully engage with their studies and peers.

Benefits of the Procedure
Improved Academic Performance: Schools that have removed personal communications devices from the learning environment have seen a notable improvement in student performance, equivalent to adding several days of instruction to the school year.
Enhanced Focus: Without the constant distraction of notifications, students can concentrate better on their lessons and participate more actively in class discussions.
Better Social Interaction: Reducing phone use encourages students to interact more with their peers, fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration.

Support and Communication
We encourage you to discuss this policy with your child and help them understand the importance of minimizing distractions to maximize their learning potential. If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call the school office, and we will ensure the message is delivered promptly.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in making our school a better place for learning.
