Senior of the Month: Shayne Christian
GMU Senior of the Month
Shayne Christian, June 2021
Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Student Council proudly announces Shayne Christian as its Senior of the Month for June 2021!

Shayne Christian (6/2021)Shayne has not been in the building often this year; he completed his academic courses a year early and has been making an impressive mark in the community through his work-study placement with Built Right Fabrication. Construction and fabrication are among Shayne’s many interests, and he is quite skilled in this area.

As an Eagle Scout, at the pinnacle of his long involvement with scouting, Shayne built benches and handicapped-accessible picnic tables for the Copes Corner Park. This was a daunting project involving several stages of work and a variety of skills, notably recruiting volunteers and acquiring the resources and supplies to make his idea a reality.

Shayne is also an accomplished student of welding, which he learned through the BOCES program and was acknowledged with his induction into the National Technical Honor Society in April.

Shayne’s laudable work ethic and dedication are apparent not only in his achievements at school, but also in the activities he pursues in his free time. An incredible shot and an esteemed member of GMU’s Clay Raiders, Shayne set a record in May as the first ever to shoot 25 in a row. He has previously been invited to participate at the national level in the USA High School Clay Target Competition.

A friend to many, Shayne’s great sense of humor and willingness to extend himself to others are hallmarks of the legacy he will leave after he is awarded his diploma at Commencement later this month. Shayne has set a wonderful example to the student body at GMU of preparedness for adult life, the rewards of perseverance and hard work, and the impact of a commendable character.
