Dominick Carey is putting his Mike Rowe Work Ethic Scholarship to good use as the 2020 Gilbertsville-Mount Upton graduate is studying Electrical Construction and Utility Management at SUNY Delhi.
Working toward a career as a lineman, Dominick is staying busy as a full-time college student and a part-time employee for the Catskill Shed Company. He received the Mike Rowe Works Foundation Work Ethic Scholarship after graduation in recognition of his character, achievements and potential.
Dominick made the most of his high school experience, taking college courses, participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, earning multiple academic and character-based rewards, and completing a work-study program. He was a natural for the Work Ethic Scholarship, established by the host of television programs such as “Dirty Jobs” and “Somebody’s Gotta Do It.”
The Mike Rowe Works Foundation scholarship webpage says its scholarship program recognizes “the people who understand the importance of personal responsibility, delayed gratification, a positive attitude, and, of course, work ethic. The hardworking men and women who keep the lights on, water running, and air flowing – the next generation of skilled workers who will work smart and hard. These are the folks we consider rock stars, and we want to reward them.”
GMU is very proud of you, Dominick! Keep up the good work!
