Senior of the Month: Miranda Carrabba
GMU Senior of the Month
Miranda Carrabba, May 2022
Congratulations to Miranda Carrabba, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Senior of the Month for May 2022!

Miranda Carrabba (5/2022)Miranda joined the GMU community at the beginning of her junior year and has since become an influential leader of the student body. This passionate, open-minded student is a driving force behind various new clubs and extracurricular activities, and her work ethic and empathy have been commended by several GMU staff members.

Miranda transferred from neighboring Morris, where she participated in Drama Club and Spanish Club. Her work in the latter led to a two-week trip to Ecuador, where she volunteered at local afterschool programs for needy children in Quito. Miranda also traveled the world and enriched her education as a Rotary Youth Exchange student, spending the 2019-2020 school year in Brazil. Her participation in the program helped Miranda become a Rotarian and a Rotary Exchange Ambassador.

Miranda has continued her educational, extracurricular and leadership growth at GMU, where she serves as president of three clubs – Women for a Change, Leadership, and Theater. Also the National Honor Society treasurer, Miranda is a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance and Student Council; has been a lawyer and a witness for GMU’s Mock Trial team; and was a founding member of the GMU Academic Quiz Bowl Team that competed at SUNY Oneonta this spring.

Miranda also has taken time outside of school to organize events for students at GMU and the surrounding community, organizing daily announcements during Women’s History Month and, most recently, spearheading efforts to open a Sensory Walk on GMU’s Nature Trail in celebration of Earth Day. Miranda also has a deep passion for dance – a major part of her life since age 6 – and specializes in Irish Step Dancing.

Miranda aspires to be a marine biologist and has committed majoring in Marine Affairs at University of New England. It is clear from her tenacity, dedication and worldly outlook that Miranda will be successful in achieving her dreams and becoming an exceptional representative of GMU alumni.

Congratulations, Miranda!
