WORDS FOR THIRDS--Third-graders got a special gift Wednesday at their second-quarter awards ceremony when members of the Gilbertsville chapter of the New York State Grange made their annual donation of dictionaries to the school.

Gilbertsville Grange President Roger Halbert (back, right), who also serves as secretary of the New York State Grange, noted that the chapter has donated hundreds of dictionaries to GMU third-graders through its 'Word For Thirds' program, which is part of the Grange's national Dictionary Project.

Following the presentation, Mr. Halbert closed the ceremony with Acting GMU Principal Heather Wilcox by leading the students in grades 3 through 6 in the GMU Alma Mater, which he wrote as a Gilbertsville High School graduate.

Also pictured with the third-graders were Grange members Jean Smith (back, left) and Roberta Halbert.?The U.S. Grange was founded in 1867 as The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. It is the oldest American agricultural advocacy group with a national scope.
The Gilbertsville Grange is the largest chapter out of more than 150 in New York State.
