School closed for remainder of academic year
GMU school building (5/2020)

Governor Cuomo announced Friday, May 1, 2020, that all New York state schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Superintendent Annette Hammond would like to share this message with GMU families:

Hello families,
I am writing with a heavy heart to inform you that the Governor has now closed all NY schools for the remainder of the school year.

At GMU, student online learning and independent schoolwork should continue as it has been. The GMU meals program will also continue as it has been. If you are not receiving meals from us and feel you now need to, please call the main office of the school at 607-783-2207 and leave a message.

I’m sure everyone has lots of questions, so I will call again soon with additional information about when the actual last day of school is, when we will get paperwork and computers from students, how students will get personal belongings from the building, how students will receive awards and recognitions, and how we will celebrate and honor the graduating Class of 2020.

Although I think we all knew this news was going to come, it is difficult to accept, so please reach out to available resources if you find yourself struggling during this very hard time.

Students, please know that you are terribly missed and I hope that you and your families continue to be well. Take care.
