As you are aware, the GMU Board of Education is engaged in the process of searching for our next superintendent of schools. The application period closed on April 11, 2025; thus, we thought it would be a good time to provide an update to our school community on where we are with the process.

In February 2025, the Board engaged the search consultant services of DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo. In this capacity, the consultant guides the Board of Education through every facet of the decision-making process, from outlining candidate qualifications and publicizing the position, to eventually identifying finalists from which the Board will select our next superintendent. In other words, the Board is supported by the consultant to help it make the best decisions possible throughout every component of the search process.
You will be pleased to know that, upon the conclusion of the application period, we received a strong pool of candidates from which we likely will be able to choose an outstanding educational leader to serve as our next superintendent. The Board will soon begin the interview phase of the process. After initial candidate interviews with the Board, finalists will be chosen. The finalists will engage in a second interview with the Board and also will provide a presentation to members of our school community in early June. While candidate information will be kept confidential through the first two rounds of interviews with the Board, we will publicize the finalists prior to the community forum and before the Board makes its final decision.
Rest assured, stakeholder and community input are a key component of a successful search. In fact, we utilized the survey data on desired characteristics of our next superintendent in reviewing applications, and we will use that information during the interview process. A summary of the survey results is attached for your review. There will be other opportunities for your participation in the search process, too. Prior to selecting our next superintendent, we will invite you to a community forum with the finalists so that our community can meet the candidates and provide feedback to the Board. Your participation in this process is important to the Board of Education. We will provide additional information about the community forum at a later date.
If there are any questions or comments about the search, they are to be directed to our consultant, Michael Rullo, by calling
We thank you for your continued support of the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District and we look forward to having our new superintendent in place for the start of the 2025-2026 school year!
