GMU mourns teacher, friend

Young boy with teacher Bobbi Stensland

The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton family mourns longtime elementary school teacher Bobbi Stensland, who unexpectedly died Friday at age 57.

GMU’s Teacher of the Year in 2015, Bobbi spent 28 years with the District after earning her master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta. The Edmeston graduate taught every elementary grade level at GMU, including Pre-Kindergarten for the last several years.

GMU offers its sincerest condolences to the Stensland family and will fly the American flag at half-staff this week to honor Bobbi, a caring, compassionate friend who always put students first. Additionally, school counselors will be available for students and staff this week. Those who wish to meet with a school counselor should contact the Principal's Office for more information.

Visiting hours are set for 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris (60 Broad St.). Bobbi’s Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morris.
